Getenergy will be returning to Calgary on 21 – 23 March 2012 to facilitate the first dedicated national forum for the advancement of training, education and workforce development in the Canadian oil and gas industry. Hosted by the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT Polytechnic) the meeting will engage those concerned with development of a highly skilled national workforce for the Canadian oil and gas industry and those who wish to support that objective.
Through a unique format, the event will engage participants in an intensely practical programme of workshops that will focus on the national challenges and requirements across the Canadian industry and on how we can collaboratively implement solutions to meet them. Getenergy for Canada 2012 will be home to a Learning Arena exhibition of national and international education and training specialists that can help meet the industry’s skills and training supply demands. Both the Learning Arena and focused programme workshops will be guided and supported by a consortium of industry practitioners in education, training, learning and workforce development for the Canadian oil and gas industry.

1830 - 21 March 2012
All event sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and delegates are invited to join us at the Getenergy for Canada 2012 Opening Summit taking place at 1830 on the evening of 21 March. We will be addressed by oil and gas business leaders from across Canada including provincial and federal government ministries who will discuss this year’s theme: ‘Collaboration for the future of Canadian oil and gas’. The Summit will set the scene for Getenergy for Canada, explaining why working together is necessary to overcome the vast challenges in energy education, training and workforce development and will challenge participants to develop new approaches, relationships and mechanisms to achieve this. The guest speakers will be given a tour of the Learning Arena, meeting with the exhibitors and attendees after which there will be a drinks reception and buffet.
22 March 2012
A series of workshops will run throughout the first day of Getenergy for Canada 2012. These hands-on, structured workshops with focused outcomes aim to create suitable workable solutions that can be collaboratively designed and implemented by the forum participants.
The topics and objectives of these workshops are focused on the shared challenges of the Canadian marketplace and have been carefully selected through thorough research and guidance by practitioners in the Canadian industry. These are areas in which progress is urgently needed, yet can also be realistically addressed through a collaborative approach. In response to the Summit speeches on the first evening, participants are invited to explore these challenges by developing new ways of co-operating. Each workshop will be led by a not-for-profit organisation who will then take forward the project after the event to ensure the implementation of the step by step plan that will be produced during the workshop. International expert speakers will be invited to provide relevant case studies of industry best practice and where lessons can be considered, adapted and applied to the challenge.
These sessions will be very practical and will require the input and expertise of all attendees in order to identify, develop and produce solutions to each of the selected challenges and requirements. The results of each workshop will be put into a 15 minute presentation by the group’s representatives and relayed to the Getenergy community on 23 March.
23 March 2012
Each workshop group will offer presentations of their key findings including the next steps to be taken in implementing the action plans. These will be presented to the entire Getenergy for Canada audience along with representatives from Government and the opening committee of energy industry leaders. A full report will be published of the findings and distributed to all interested parties. The workshops and the action plans they create will ensure that the hard work and collaboration between participants throughout the workshops does not end when the event finishes.
