Zakum Development Company (Zadco), a major oil company based in Abu Dhabi, has announced a new partnership with ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body of the ICDL certification and training programme.
Under the new agreement, all offshore Zadco workers will be provided with computer literacy training, building on an earlier cooperative agreement signed in 2006.
"Expanding our ICDL program to our offshore operations will enable us to further boost productivity to attain our corporate development goals," said Juma Al Muhairi, assistant general manager of Zadco.
He added that the new oil training agreement will also help the UAE in its transition to a knowledge-based economy.
Jamil Ezzo, director general of the ICDL GCC Foundation, added that the regional IT industry will play a pivotal role in supporting growth throughout the region in the coming years.
The company has also recently hosted a series of professional workshops at the Michigan State University campus in neighbouring Dubai.
