Accurate Marine Environmental has been travelling throughout Virginia testing their oil spill equipment and holding training sessions to keep their workers up to speed.
The company is an official spill response organisation and has a duty to maintain training standards and carry out regular equipment checks to ensure optimum readiness in the event of a spill.
Coast Guard Lieutenant Robert Gore, of the Elizabeth City delegation, told the Virginian Pilot that the training sessions also maintained a vital line of communication between the maritime industry and federal authorities.
"We're just trying to do things smarter and better," he told the paper.
Dave Moore, a representative for Accurate, said that the company can be on the scene quickly once it has been scrambled by the Coast Guard, with a typical 400-gallon diesel spill taking 12 minutes to clean up.
Accurate identifies talent as its top resource and maintains a strong commitment to building the skills and experience of its workforce, which is based in Portsmouth, Virginia.
