Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) deputy chief executive Faisal Al Mahroos has been confirmed as the replacement for the departing chief executive Abdulkarim Al Sayed, who is set to retire.
Speaking to Gulf Daily News, Al Mahroos said that it is a natural succession that is considerate of the 35 years of service he has given to the company.
"I am thankful to the leadership as well as to the dedicated team of professionals who are making a collective effort to take the company forward," he said.
The executive joined Bapco as a petroleum engineer in 1976 after completing degrees in Egypt and the US and after a year-long training programme at the Gulf of Suez Oil Company.
Al Sayed will retire from the company at the end of May, although he will take up an advisory position with the National Oil and Gas Authority.
Bapco is a wholly-owned state firm and is responsible for both upstream and downstream operations in the country's oil and gas industry.
