The Alyeska Pipeline Services Company yesterday (March 31st) inaugurated an oil spill prevention training programme in Alaska.
Carried out as part of its Ship Escort/Response Vessel System (SERVS) programme, the new training campaign will be carried out offshore in Kachemak Bay over the weekend, with around 40 boats expected to participate.
Other agencies taking part include Prince William Sound Community College Tatitlek, Chugach and Chenega Native corporations, Doyon, and Crowley Maritime.
The Alyeska Endurance, a 200ft tugboat, is also expected to participate but may be delayed by adverse weather conditions.
Alyeska is holder of the American Petroleum Institute's (API's) 2008 Distinguished Operator Award, one of the top honours awarded in the US oil and gas industry.
The award recognises excellence in community outreach, public safety, environmental and safety performance, integrity management, and use of technology.
It has previously won five API environmental awards and was commended for its continued achievements in this field.
