Pittsburgh-based Amerisafe has introduced a new series of training programmes for the oil and gas industry which specifically address the dangers of hydrogen sulphide.
The gas is a natural by-product of organic decay and as the development of the Marcellus Shale play continues, there is growing concern that workers may come in contact with the noxious gas.
Commenting on the launch of the new training programme, Shaun McGinnis, project manager for consultation at Amerisafe Consulting and Safety Services, said: "The push for natural gas and the drilling in the Marcellus Shale regions has caused an increase in the demand for hydrogen sulfide safety training. We are excited to be offering [it]."
He added that all courses will be compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's hazard communication standards, as well as the American Petroleum Institute's recommended practices guidelines.
The company also offers refinery safety training courses covering maintenance, construction, regeneration and piping replacement.
