The Angolan government has introduced new laws which will require oil firms working in the country to hire domestic workers in all job categories and positions within the firm, it has been announced.
According to Agencia AngolaPress, the decision to officiate the legislative document was made in a bid to address the critical skills shortfall in the country.
Under new rules, all posts occupied by foreign workers will have to be cleared with the ministry of petroleum, while energy majors will also liaise with the government to ensure that commitments to oil training and human resources management are adhered to.
All national workers will also be entitled to the same wages and benefits granted to foreign employees, with discrimination against Angolans forbidden under the new legislation.
In other developments, Angola has also demonstrated its commitment to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and has pledged to carry out its obligation to cut production, as agreed at a monthly meeting in December.
