A training provider focussing on working at height services, AquaTerra Solutions, has been used by Rowan Drilling UK to train its staff in best practice when working on the jack-up rig Gorilla V.
The rig sits in 400 ft of water in the North Sea and has a drilling depth of 35,000 ft. It has been operational since 1998.
Learning and development manager at Rowan Drilling UK Jean Francois-Basse told Oil Online: "We worked closely with [AquaTerra Solutions] to develop a training course that was tailored with the requirements of the workers on board the Gorilla V, as well as complying with the industry's health and safety regulations."
He added that the oil industry training offered involved both practical and theoretical work so that employees could appreciate the relevance of the training.
Training director at AquaTerra Solutions Mark Pearce said that although health and safety requirements differ in different global locations, adhering to UK legislation can help ensure global best practice is met.
