High-level talks held at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia, have strengthened plans to build a new oil and gas training and research hub on campus.
Representatives of industry, government, business and research facilities met on Casuarina campus to discuss the plans, with the Minerals Council of Australia, OPITO, Conocophillips, Wood Group, Inpex, Woodside Energy, ENI Australia, NT Training Group, and the Western Australia Energy Research Alliance among those in attendance.
The vice-chancellor of the university Barney Glover said the proposals for the centre had been met with widespread approval.
"CDU is well-placed to advance this project. Our Vocational Education and Training sector delivers training in the traditional trades as well as in emerging trade-related areas. We also have an emerging research interest in the oil and gas industry," he commented.
UK-based BG Group last month completed Australia's largest ever liquefied natural gas sales agreement, with China National Offshore Oil Corp due to purchase around $60 billion worth of fuel from a Queensland project.
