The government of British Columbia has unveiled two new job development initiatives for workers in the region.
The Field Services Entrepreneur Training and Professional Driver Training for Women will both aim to create and support jobs in the oil and gas industry in the Canadian province by providing the practical, vocational skills needed to secure a job in this difficult economic climate.
Energy, mines and petroleum resources minister Blair Lekstrom launched the initiative yesterday (March 18th), sthat the provincial government is proud to be working with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to deliver the jobs programme.
"Through these career development initiatives we are investing in job training opportunities that will ensure people have the necessary skills to obtain employment in the oil and gas sector," he added.
Diane Finley, minister for Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, said earlier this month that investment in training was one of the successful methods of maintaining employment through a downturn.
