British engineering and technology firm BMT has signed an agreement with the Yemeni oil ministry to measure the impact of the country's oil and gas industry on the environment.
The Yemen Observer reports that the accord, signed in the Yemeni capital Sana'a, covers the technical and legislative systems that will need to be developed to strengthen environmental policy and establish specific regulations governing the oil and gas industry.
Extending from this, the two sides negotiated terms for the provision of environmental awareness and safety training.
Signatory and minister of oil and minerals Amir Salem al-Aydarous said that the deal had been penned in line with the vision of the country's president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Earlier this week, BMT announced that it is continuing to enjoy brisk business despite the weak economic conditions as a global shortage of skilled marine surveyors persists.
The group reports that work has been bolstered by a flood of marine insurance claims in recent months.
