BP will conduct injectivity testing later today (August 3rd) to ensure the Micondo well is securely capped and is also preparing to initiate a static kill on the well.
The company originally scheduled testing to be carried out yesterday but delayed doing so after a small leak was found in the capping stack hydraulic control system.
The leak is expected to be repaired this morning and the company will then carry out final injectivity testing before initiating a final static kill, which will involve pumping heavy drilling mud into the well.
In other developments, the company has also announced a new $100 million funding programme to provide economic support for displaced rig workers, organised through the Baton Rouge Foundation, which provides community support through outreach programmes and educational initiatives.
Since the leak began on April 20th, BP has trained thousands of workers to support its onshore and offshore efforts to cap the well and contain the spill.
