Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) is setting new standards in offshore rigs with the completion of Bugan, a remotely-operated platform situated 21km off the coast of Brunei.
Delivered within budget and a year ahead of schedule, the platform is on target to achieve first oil in September this year.
In May, BSP announced that it has achieved first oil at Mampak in Brunei.
As well as being the fastest completion in BSP's history, it is also a landmark moment for the Brunei's domestic oil and gas industry as the 1,400 tonne rig was built using the skills and expertise of 33 local businesses.
Omar bin Abdul, the managing director of local contractor SKS, said that the contract allowed the company to prove its expertise and support jobs in the community.
"Towards this commitment, SKS has invested millions of dollars in the construction of a new training school with facilities to train welders, scaffolders, electricians, inspectors, HSE and various other courses," he added.
