Companies throughout the UAE have been reminded of the need to invest in working at height training to protect employees working on cranes, rigs, towers and other structures.
According to Construction Week, the percentage of the world's cranes deployed in the emirates is a hotly disputed topic, with estimates ranging from three per cent to 30 per cent.
Whatever the true total is, there are thousands of cranes and other elevated structures used in the construction sector and other key areas such as the oil and gas industry.
Elias McGrath, secretary of industry watchdog at Build Safe UAE, commented: "Questioning the competency of operators and the training that they are going through to ensure that they are up to date with the right standards of practice is key."
Build Safe developed a nationwide presence in the emirates last year, expanding from its base in Dubai to increase membership and raise standards throughout the UAE.
