Citation Oil and Gas will commit to enhanced safety training for its workers after a spill at its Cellars Ranch production field.
The firm has been fined $280,000 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Justice as a result of the incident at its Wyoming facility.
In addition, the firm will invest approximately $580,000 on improved spill controls at the plant to reduce the risk of such an event occurring again.
"EPA is taking this action to ensure compliance with laws that prevent oil spills and protect our waters and ecosystems," said Sharon Kercher, the organisation's deputy enforcement director.
A decree filed in the US District Court for the District for Wyoming also charges Citation with responsibility for offering enhanced oil training for its workers, in addition to the adoption of improved risk analysis techniques.
In other recent announcements, the EPA has also ruled that the Explorer Pipeline Company has agreed to pay a $3.3 million penalty for a jet fuel spill near Huntsville, Texas.
