The Cogent Skills Sector Council has approached members of the UK oil and gas industry and other key sectors to promote innovation in the administration of workplace training and development.

Working in partnership with Business Link and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, Cogent has established a new framework that will diversify training options for the UK workforce.

More than 50 new qualifications have already been developed under the framework, while a new focus on in-house occupational training is also likely to improve access to skills for workers in the oil and gas industry.

Joanna Woolf, Cogent chief executive officer, explained: "This new framework presents qualifications in a way that's much easier to understand and to measure."

Cogent is the sector skills council for the UK oil and gas industry, as well as chemical, pharmaceutical and polymers sectors.

In support of its operations, Cogent maintains strong links with leading oil and gas training providers such as OPITO.
