The mooted gas pipeline that could be constructed between Iran and Pakistan may be completed by 2013, it has been revealed.
Pakistan ministers recently expressed their desire to see the project completed at the earliest opportunity.
This is to allow the gas supplied to help Pakistan with its energy requirements in the years to come.
Monday's meeting was also a chance for those involved in developing the project to discuss technical issues and the scheme's feasibility.
However, more training may be needed for Iran and Pakistan's workers in the oil and gas industry, following the news that India is unlikely to collaborate on the construction due to cost fears.
Last month, Gulf states were urged to consider more collaboration with Iraq, with training in the oil and gas industry one potential way to do so.
Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi wrote for the Guardian's Comment is Free that extending diplomatic relations could assist Iraq on its road to recovery.
