Abu Dhabi-based oil and gas firm Dolphin Energy has outlined plans to help address the fuel shortage in Fujairah with the development of a new gas pipeline.
The 244-km link will enable up to 350 million cubic feet of gas each to be fed directly from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah each day once it is completed, the firm said.
Phase one of the project, a 128-km pipeline, has already been completed by Dolphin's engineers, with the second, 116-km phase due to be completed by September this year.
Speaking to Emirates Business, energy industry experts said the development will boost energy security and industrialisation efforts across the United Arab Emirates.
"This new supply will help Fujairah meet its long talked about fuel shortage. It will help the emirate grow into a manufacturing hub - something that it sincerely wants," said Dheeraj Shahdadpuri, an energy analyst at Dubai International Financial Centre.
A joint venture between Mubadala, Total and Occidental Petroleum, Dolphin Energy began gas production in Abu Dhabi in July 2007.
It provides oil and gas training, internships and work placements to Emirati and Qatari students studying at universities in the UAE, Qatar and overseas.
