Dubai Drydocks World South-East Asia (DDW SEA), the region's largest shipbuilder, has constructed new training facilities on the Indonesian island of Batam to enhance skills in the local workforce.
Commenting at the inauguration of the training and development centre, DDW SEA managing director Mark Biggs said: "The training centre is an integral part of our continuing commitment to the Batam shipping industry, and a strategic move to increase the ratio of direct employees against our existing subcontractors."
The company has long provided support for companies throughout the region working in the oil and gas industry and during 25 years of operations has established itself as a reliable name in shipbuilding, rigs and floating production, storage and offloading vessels.
In an exclusive interview with the Jakarta Post, Riau Islands governor Ismeth Abdullah, who hosted the inauguration ceremony, said that the facilities will be able to provide training and development support for batches of around 200 workers.
