The Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) is set to develop a new offshore safety training and development course for the oil and gas industry.

According to Al Bawaba, the EIMA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia-based Sribima Maritime Training Centre for the development of world-class offshore facilities in the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) campus.

The course will act as a complement to existing EIMA training and development programmes and will focus on emergency response, safety skills and safety management.

Captain Jaafar Sidin, director of DMC Campus and EIMA, commented: "This joint venture will act as a catalyst that will accelerate the growth of the much-needed manpower and skills in the maritime sector and subsequently reinforce Dubai's reputation as a world-class maritime centre."

In September, the EIMA also announced a partnership with Lloyds Register for the provision of safety, security and ship classifications training and development courses at the DMC campus.
