Paulo Scaroni, the chairman of Italian oil giant ENI, has confirmed that the company is ready to establish training and development ties with Pakistan in order to support its burgeoning oil and gas industry.
The Associated Press of Pakistan reports that a statement from the chairman came during a meeting with Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari in Rome.
Mr Scaroni also expressed support for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gas pipeline project and his attendance is expected at a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the development of the pipeline due to be held in the coming weeks.
He insisted that by imparting oil and gas training and sharing technology, ENI will help Pakistan's energy industry to develop in an expeditious manner and provide employment for national workers.
ENI has been involved in upstream operations in Pakistan since 2000 and signed an accord with the country's government earlier this year to increase its presence in the midstream and downstream sectors of the national oil and gas industry.
