Women are taking full advantage of improved access to employment in the UAE and can be found at all levels of the public and private sector, a new report from the UAE University has shown.
Speaking to Gulf News, Mousa Shallal, associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the university, explained that greater access to training and educational resources has allowed women to move into non-traditional sectors such as the oil and gas industry.
"Modern Emirati women can now be found working in government, engineering, science, healthcare, media, computer technology, law, commerce and the oil industry," he said.
He went on to call for broader research into the trends and impacts in the job market for Emirati women, explaining that to date there has been a dearth of information this area.
According to the Embassy of the UAE in Washington DC, women filled two-thirds of all governmental positions in the emirates, while the first female judge was also sworn in October 2008.
