US-based pipeline operator Enbridge is defying the economic gloom with an impressive expansion strategy that will also include training of local workers.
The company, which owns and operates the Superior oil processing hub, is responsible for supplying ten per cent of the nation's crude from Canadian reserves and also pumps money into Michigan's economy via its commitment to local employment.
Speaking to the Superior Telegram, Denise Hamsher, director of public, federal and regulatory affairs for Enbridge, said that the company has performed strongly through the economic crisis because of its position in the supply chain.
"Because we're a transporter and we don't own the crude oil, we're fairly neutral to the price of crude," she said.
As such, the company is continuing to hire in the region and is also planning on running a training and development programme at the Blaine Business Centre to prepare workers for the pipeline industry.
Patrick D Daniel, president and chief executive of Enbridge, also insists that while the company will undoubtedly see some corrections to its course as a result of the economic crisis, these will be made to drive core business growth.
