An annual challenge began over the weekend for pupils to learn about the oil and gas industry.
Northsound 1 Energy Schools Challenge 2008 puts children's knowledge to the test, with rounds on entertainment, sport and music, as well as a special round on the energy sector.
The winning team will win a £600 prize for their school and £50 each.
A total of 16 teams have signed up for the competition in the Aberdeenshire area and the first round took place yesterday as Kemnay Academy took on Portlethen Academy.
Northsound's managing director Luke McCullough said: "The Northsound 1 Energy Schools Challenge is a fun competition for local schools and we'll be watching with interest to see which team has the best general knowledge and lifts the trophy."
He added that he hoped Northsound would inspire pupils to opt for a career in energy.
The event will continue over the coming weeks with the final taking place on 21st December.
It could inspire others to educate children on the oil and gas sector across the world.
Earlier this year the Perenco High Energy Schools Challenge took place in Norwich, according to the East of England Energy Group.
