Italian oil major Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakistani authorities to strengthen its operations in the country's oil and gas industry.
The company acquired interests in Pakistan with the takeover of British Borneo, an independent upstream firm which had small non-operating interests in a number of fields, in 2000.
Following the signing ceremony attended by Muhammad Saleem, secretary of petroleum and natural resources, and Paolo Scaroni, chief executive officer of Eni, the Italian firm will begin fast-tracked operations with a view to creating long-term revenues for the nation.
The MoU also sets out guidelines for the transfer of technical skills through the provision of training workshops that will help Pakistanis to secure a job in the country's burgeoning oil and gas industry.
Last year, Eni also signed a wide-reaching MoU with Qatar Petroleum International to jointly develop upstream exploration and development opportunities in the Gulf state.
