Tyneside-based Fabricom Offshore Services has announced that it plans to increase the size of its workforce by two-thirds over the next 12 months.
The two-year old company is embarking on a large expansion programme after securing a contract with Talisman to upgrade the Claymore oil platform in the North Sea.
Speaking to The Journal, company director Alan Cairns said it is a lucrative contract which could have a lifespan of up to two years.
"We've got about 60 people in Newcastle and this secures their jobs and another 20 on top of that for the next 18 months. I would realistically like to take us from 60 to 100 in the next 12 months," he said.
The company also currently has six people employed on its oil and gas training programme, and Mr Cairns expressed the desire to add another four trainees to this roster.
Fabricom is a subsidiary of French energy major GDF Suez.
