Lincoln Park school in Pensacola, Florida has received a $10,000 (£6,651) grant from ExxonMobil in order to further its science programme, it has emerged.
The Pensacola News Journal has reported that the school will use the money to provide a hands-on science education and raise pass rates for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
"We want to get students out of the books and actually experience it for themselves," said school principal Carol McIntosh.
The grants form part of a nationwide funding programme pursued by ExxonMobil which will include 4,000 $500 grants for educational establishments across the US.
Ben Soraci, US retail sales director, ExxonMobil fuels marketing, said that the company has a longstanding commitment to improving the standards of teaching in neighbourhood schools.
Educational Alliance grants will be used to improve science and maths education programmes for young students.
A strong grounding in these subjects could prepare them for a successful career in the oil and gas industry.
