GE has delivered a new -60C gas turbine generator for a power plant sited in Rosneft's Vankor field in northern Russia.
In addition to supplying the 210MW gas turbine, GE has also developed five tailored gas training programmes to ensure the equipment is used in line with best-practice guidelines.
The new turbine will be the only source of power used for life support and oil and gas production, while also forming the base energy source for exploration and production activities.
Rosneft employees will undertake an inaugural training and development programme at GE's regional headquarters in Florence, Italy.
Alexander Chuvayev, GE Oil & Gas region sales executive for Russia, commented: "This contract acknowledges the utmost reliability of our product structured equipment which can be customized to withstand operations in the world's harshest climatic conditions."
He added that as well as providing equipment capable of working in sub-arctic conditions, the company has proven its versatility with products operating in temperatures of up to 60C in Africa and the Middle East.
