Further work in the Iraq oil and gas industry could arise through the proposed construction of a pair of pipelines linking the country to Russia.
News agency MENAFN reports the announcement of the planned project by the Russian Ministry of Energy.
It was first published by Iraq national news agency Aswat Al-Iraq, with MENAFN noting that a recent visit to the country by Russian delegates was the first for six years.
Meanwhile, the Russian statement adds that Iraq has been found to be interested in cooperating more greatly with Russia than has previously been the case.
Ultimately, it is expected that this is to result in two natural gas pipelines being constructed, linking oil and gas industry sites in the two nations.
The news follows previous reports of progress that is being made on the planned Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, which it is believed could be completed by 2013 to help Pakistan service its demand for energy in the coming years.
