Policies on gas pricing will play a pivotal role in determining the winners and losers in the upcoming elections in Trinidad and Tobago, finance minister Mariano Browne has claimed.
Speaking to the Trinidad Express prior to a trade visit in Port of Spain, he said that gas is more important than oil to the islands' residents because the state has a gas-driven economy.
Global gas prices have remained persistently low since the onset of the economic crisis, although Mr Browne said he was confident of recovery at an international, regional and national level.
He added that the two islands are well positioned for inward investment and also boasted a competitive gas industry and tax rates.
As part of its socioeconomic development programme, the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago hosts a number of community facilities such as the training and development centre in Guayaguayare, which provides both skills-based education for adults and facilities for children of the community.
