The department of earth sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London has successfully opened a new geoscience training and development centre in Siberia.
Targeting Russian students on its masters degree on petroleum sciences, the centre was built in collaboration with Tyumen State Oil and Gas University (TSOGU), with funding providing by TNK-BP.
Opened by representatives from all contributing parties last week, the facilities include leading edge computer oil training and analysis software, allowing Russian students to work with standard industry applications.
"This is a fantastic achievement for all concerned. Royal Holloway is delighted to be in partnership with TSOGU and TNK-BP to provide this world-class training programme," said dean of science at Royal Holloway Professor Philip Beesley.
Richard Herbert, executive vice-president of TNK-BP Management's Technology Stream, said that the training and development centre would allow the group to provide the skills necessary to drive future growth in the oil industry.
The university offers 20 studentships in collaboration with TSOGU.
