Germany is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the country's first oil find with a training and development initiative designed to engage the wider public in the oil and gas industry.
The training module, hosted by Wintershall, will offer a primer on both the upstream and downstream operations of the industry in order to explain how oil and gas have become the most important raw materials for industrialised nations.
Dr Ties Tiessen, member of the board of executive directors of Wintershall Holding, commented: "The 150th anniversary of crude oil production is the perfect occasion to present our work to a broader public."
"Germany is where it all began for our company, and it has always been the foundation of our operations," he added.
The country's oil age began with the discovery of crude in Wietze in the Lower Saxony district of Germany in 1859.
Wintershall, which has been in operation for 75 years, is Germany's largest oil and gas producer.
