Minister for communications in Ghana Haruna Iddrisu has argued that there is a need for more training so modern surveyors can better support the country's oil and gas industry.
Speaking to the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping, Mr Iddrisu argued that the role of surveyors in the development of the oil industry cannot be over-emphasised, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) reports.
He said that training of surveyors was an essential requirement for not only the oil industry, but also for the spatial, economic and social development of the country.
"In this era of [an] emerging oil industry, the role of surveyors cannot be over-emphasised," the GNA claims he said.
He added that surveyors were needed in order to make base use of technology in the country.
A number of international oil companies have developed oil projects in Ghana, including Anadarko and Tullow, among others.
