The oil industry can benefit from more hands-on training, according to the Galveston County Daily News.
Readers of the publication are told that the stigma which sometimes surrounds vocational courses obscures the importance of the skills learned by participants.
Alan Hutchins, president of A&A Machine and Fabrication in La Marque, tells the publication of the need for more local talent capable of adopting a hands-on approach to the types of engineering required in the oil industry.
"We can work on our computers, and we can engineer it and draw it, but somebody has got to make it," he explains.
The news provider adds that Mr Hutchins has previously seen boom times in the oil industry where he has been forced to look nationwide for the number of skilled employees needed.
However, the article notes his desire and preference for a localised workforce with the necessary skills.
A&A Machine and Fabrication adds that its own philosophy incorporates training its staff with the knowledge and expertise they need to offer a "turn-key" solution to customers.
