India's consul general Anil Kumar Anand has been given a guided tour of the Underwater Centre in Fort William, one of the world's leading remotely operated vehicle (ROV) training institutes.
The centre has built up a strong Indian client base and is keen to attract further interest from the subcontinent.
Steve Ham, general manager of The Underwater Centre, said that India is becoming a leading market for offshore ROV services companies, as well as training institutes.
"The oil and gas market in India plays a vital role in the country's economy. Continuing exploration naturally leads to an increased pressure for skilled subsea personnel, specialising in areas such as commercial diving and ROVs," he commented.
The Underwater Centre has more than 40 years' experience in the subsea industry, and is situated on Loch Linnhe, one of the country's deepest sea lochs, allowing for training to be conducted at depths of more than 100 metres.
