A group of engineers from India has conducted a tour of rigs and platforms in the Gulf of Mexico during training operations organised by the US Minerals Management Service (MMS).
The federal agency has been working in conjunction with India's ministry of petroleum and natural gas oil industry safety directorate to carry out routine examinations in the region.
MMS acting director Walter Cruickshank commented: "We were honoured to host our partners from India and to have the opportunity to share our knowledge of offshore oil and gas regulations, environmental protections and official safety inspections with them."
Agency staff also provided practical training in the fields of regulatory best practice and legal obligations, in addition to effective monitoring of the oil and gas industry in the outer continental shelf (OCS).
Last month, the MMS announced three new landmark regulatory instruments that will aim to re-establish energy independence in the US through new oil and gas leasing programmes pertaining to the OCS and investment in alternative energy sources.
