Reliance Industries Limited has risen to the challenge of finding technical manpower and started production of crude oil at its KG-D6 block of Krishna Godavari Basin.
The company says from the time of discovery, oil production began in just over two years, making it one of the fastest green-field deep water oil development projects in the world.
It states that it faced challenges such as finding an appropriately-trained workforce, difficult ocean conditions and supply chain constraints.
But these have now been overcome, allowing some 5,000 barrels of crude oil to be produced per day.
When peak production is achieved Reliance KG-D6 will account for 40 per cent of India's current indigenous hydrocarbon production and save the country an estimated annual foreign exchange outflow of $20 billion (£10.85 billion).
The Reliance Group spans exploration and production of oil and gas, petroleum refining and marketing, petrochemicals, textiles and retail and is India's largest private sector enterprise.
