Indonesia and Vietnam have strengthened the framework for cooperation in the oil and gas industry and the mining sector with the signing of a new agreement.
The Jakarta Post reports that the new bi-lateral agreement will cover oil, energy and mining and will focus on nurturing inward investment opportunities in Indonesia.
However, it will also fuel the development of a new education and training exchange between the two countries.
Oil and gas director-general Evita Legowo commented: "The two parties have expressed interest in expanding the tripartite cooperation initiative (Petronas/Malaysia, Petrovietnam/Vietnam, dan Pertamina/Indonesia) as a model for cooperation among Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries."
Last month, Asia Pulse reported that Malaysia and Vietnam are set to benefit from the commencement of production from the former's Northern Fields, which is being overseen by Talisman.
Production is expected to reach 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by early next year.
