Following a 20-day driller program in Rankin Inlet, workers are now ready to work in the oil and gas industry, it has been reported.
According to Northern News Services Online, Kivalliq Drilling coordinated the training program, which was the first the company had undertaken, and successfully helped 11 Inuit prepare for employment in the sector.
Joeffrey Kaludjak, the owner of the company, told the publication: "I wanted to make this course available so there would be more local Inuit who would have certified training."
He praised the course run by Maritime Drilling Schools and thanked the board of directors at Kivalliq Partners for supporting the scheme.
Collie MacDonald of the Maritime school in North Sydney informed the website that those who passed the course are able to go straight into work on a rig and are able to do the work asked of them.
Rankin Inlet is located in Nunavut, Canada.
