The Iraqi government is to make amendments to legislation concerning oil and gas industry training, it has emerged.
Abdulhadi al-Hassani, deputy chair of the country's parliamentary oil and gas committee, spoke to the Aswat al-Iraq news agency concerning the development.
Law on the national oil company should be revised, he explained, particularly with regard to financial appropriations.
Furthermore, workers should be instructed as to the use of new technology as a means of raising standards, he claimed.
The committee "will add a paragraph in the law on the training and rehabilitation of national technicians based on up-to-date systems to enhance the administrative and technical levels", Mr al-Hassani commented.
Meanwhile, four bills were drafted three years ago concerning the potential modernisation of the oil sector in Iraq.
However, these may not get passed until after the national elections in January, parliament member and chair of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee Ali Hussein Belo told the Iraq Oil Report.
