KIC Chemicals will look to train workers and develop technological infrastructure that will allow Malaysia to address its oil and gas storage capacity internally, the company's executive chairman Abdul Rashid Mohamad Isa Al-Qadiry has said.
Speaking to Bernama, Mr Al-Qadiry said that the group has already made great strides to achieving storage independence since it began operations in Malaysia six years ago.
"We felt that we could help eliminate the need for double handling costs and allowing consumers to benefit from savings in the supply chain efficiency," he told reporters.
He added that prospectively, reducing reliance on petroleum imports will help to spur job creation and provide training platforms for the development of a highly skilled national workforce.
KIC is the largest storage terminal operator in Malaysia and manages a capacity of 500,000 cubic metres.
So too, the company confirmed this month that it has secured ownership of a 33-acre plot of land adjacent to its headquarters and packaging and distribution facilities as a base for future growth.
