Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev have put their names to a collection of accords that will enhance cooperation in areas such as oil and gas sales, refining and personnel training.
Azeri news agency APA reports that the duo also laid the groundwork for increased military and navy training.
In a joint statement at the resolution of the summit of the Turkic Speaking Countries, the two leaders said the agreements will usher in a new era of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
"Despite the economic crisis and fall of trade turnover, the economic relations are dynamically developing and I believe that this temporary fall will be lifted soon because of projects described in the documents we signed today," said Mr Aliyev.
The two countries are also working with partners in China and Uzbekistan to develop a pipeline that will pump Azeri gas to Asian markets, with KazMunaiGaz boss Kairgeldy Kabyldin telling Reuters last month that the pipeline will be brought on-stream by 2011.
