The Kikam Technical Institute (Kimtech) in Ghana's Ellembelle District has been accredited to provide oil and gas training for mid-level positions in the country's burgeoning energy industry.
Ghana is set to achieve first oil from the Jubilee field in the fourth quarter of the year and the government is pushing ahead with plans to secure jobs for local people looking to enter the industry.
According to Joy Online, the announcement was made by the minister for energy Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah during a visit to three local communities in his constituency.
Due to the proximity of Kimtech to the offshore fields, the institute was identified as an ideal candidate to provide support training for the industry, he told residents in Azuleloanu, Kikam and Asanda.
The Ghanaian government is also in the process of drawing up a draft local content bill that will set down quotas for local participation in the oil and gas industry.
