The 5,000 sq ft centre is the largest of its type in the UK and offers training for a range of sectors including subsea, marine, offshore construction and oil and gas.

Training and marine simulation business manager at Kongsberg Maritime Iain Fullerton said that the firm hopes to increase the number of people it trains following the move to new premises.

Dave Shand, general manager of Kongsberg Maritime, said: "We are making a significant investment in training in Aberdeen with the launch of this centre."

He added that the firm hopes to emulate the success it has enjoyed in other locations around the world at its new facilities in Aberdeen.

Areas covered at the new centre include dynamic positioning, offshore acoustic positioning and marine automations, among other things.

Kongsberg notes that its oil and gas technologies business is a new priority area within its maritime business.
