Exports from Kuwait's second-largest oil refinery have not been impacted by this week's explosion and fire, officials have confirmed.
According to reports coming out of the Mina Abdullah port in the Opec member state, leaking fumes caused a minor blast and then a fire at a chemical and paint plant, with one local worker suffering from burns.
Around 270,000 barrels of oil are produced daily at the refinery and the Kuwaiti state refinery arm KNPC was quick to report that this had not been jeopardised by the incident.
"The explosion happened outside the refinery in Mina Abdullah, in the industrial area where there are several companies and private factories," a state official told Reuters.
"There was no effect on the refinery installation and exports."
Just recently it was confirmed that Kuwait produced 2.58 million barrels of oil per day over May, thereby maintaining its position as the world's seventh-largest oil exporter.
