A new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) training centre is being developed in Port Arthur as a result of a continuing boom in LNG energy demand, a report indicates.
The new centre was announced by the president of Lamar University-Beaumont, James Simmons, who said that the training centre will be pivotal in the development of the LNG sector in the area, the Port Arthur News reports.
"We'll be rule-making - expanding the knowledge base of the coast guard and industry with the same standards for training," said US coast guard commandant Admiral Thad Allen, who was speaking at the official launch of the new gas industry training centre.
Training relating to other forms of gas will also be given at the new facility, the US coast guard, which will operate the centre, has confirmed. Marine safety in relation to the transport of LNG will also be covered.
The new centre will be the third such training facility, which is being created as a result of growing demand for LNG products.
