Lamprell Energy has managed to complete a new LT-116E jackup rig in just 18 months, drawing on efficiency measures taught during a computer aided design (CAD) training module.
ShipConstructor reports that other shipyards have also achieved similar results through the provision of CAD training and development, a feat of particular importance at a time when pressure to trim costs and reduce delivery times is mounting.
In a new paper delivered at the International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding by Dr Oskar Lee, it is revealed that shipyards can dramatically improve efficiency by integrating separate operations and making information about the project available to all involved departments.
"Because ShipConstructor uses a data-rich 3D model capable of linking to other databases, the use of ShipConstructor was a key reason for the shipyards' productivity in oil rig fabrication," said the company.
ShipConstructor has also recently expanded its presence in Portugal, Spain and Africa with the addition of Vera Navis to its list of dealership partners.
