The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Authority will open a new maritime training centre in Kuantan to support oil and gas infrastructure in the region.
Speaking to Bernama, eastern region enforcement chief First Admiral Datuk Ismail Hamzah said the new maritime training centre will be built on a 200-acre site and will be capable of housing up to 1,000 trainees.
"We expect the centre, the biggest MMEA training centre in the country, to be ready and operational by next year," he said during a meeting at the Kuala Terengganu MMEA Sports and Welfare Club yesterday (April 21st).
He added that the training centre will be strategically situated next to lake which will serve as a practical training environment for cadets.
The centre will place particular focus on the protection of Malaysian offshore oil infrastructure, Mr Hamzah concluded.
Last month, Malaysian authorities opened a new training and development centre in order to support growth in the commodities sector with a steady stream of highly-skilled workers.
