Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced today (August 6th) that proposals have been made for joint venture oil exploration operations with Brunei.
Although the details are yet to be ironed out, the prime minister said that exploration activities may be conducted in the territorial waters of both countries.
Comments from Mr Najib came after a private meeting with the Sultan of Brunei, which was described as "very satisfactory".
The pair also committed to plans to settle land and maritime border demarcations in order to pave the way for stronger bilateral ties.
Mr Najib commented: "The agreement between our two countries to settle the land and maritime boundary demarcation is one of the big milestones ... that will bring our bilateral relationship to new heights."
This in turn may lead to the development of wider cooperation in fields such as training and development, trade and infrastructure.
