The leaders of two Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been invited to take part in ExxonMobil's Global Women in Management (GWIM) programme.
Manohara Subramaniam and Rozy Hayatee Sharif will join 25 other NGO leaders from around the world in Washington, DC, to take part in an intensive four-week training scheme, followed by a year-long mentoring programme during which they will shadow senior members of the US-based Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA).
Speaking to the Malaysia Star, Ms Subramaniam, 50, who is the women and youth cluster manager in the Malaysian AIDS Council, said that she was delighted to be chosen for the training course.
"I knew I could benefit from the training provided by the programme but I never thought I would be selected for it. I thought I was too old," she said.
Working with CEDPA, ExxonMobil has helped to train 199 GWIM graduates from 35 countries. As well as Washington, DC, courses have been held in Nigeria and Mexico City.
